The Raven Movie Review
Fanciful interpretation of the last days of the nineteenth century horror writer Edgar Allan Poe in the cross between the silence of the lamb and the Keystone Cops.
No successful (the House of Usher, 1960) and more successful (The pit and the pendulum, 2009) the movie macabre Edgar Allan Poe's Tales. The idea behind the raven by director James McTeigue Swedish is strong and hopeful, but how far he manages to film the essence of Poe?
Horror stories
Baltimore, 1849. In the last days of his life chasing Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack), together with the police to make a crazy grisly murders. Seem to be inspired by Poe's darkest stories killing the Murders in the Rue Morgue and the pit and the pendulum. Young Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) collaborates with Poe to understand the evil spirits, because the killer is apparently planning any horror stories of Poe come true. The deadly cat and mouse game escalates when Poe discovers that his beloved Emily (Alice Eve) is the next target.
Baltimore is Budapest
Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American literary giant. His short stories are awful and incredibly popular (Fall of the House of Usher, premature burial). His most famous works are the gothic poem The Raven. He was addicted to gambling, alcohol and opium, and took off the rails. Little is known about his last days, except that he was found in a confused state park in Baltimore in October 1849. The idea of the film is to go back in time from the point and make a thriller in his last days . The Swedish director James McTeigue is based on his amazing debut V for Vendetta (2005) earned her second movie as Ninja Assassin (2007) was a complete failure. Actor John Cusack is much resemblance to Poe and took the lead on his behalf. Cusack able to play strong roles include High Fidelity (2000) and Being John Malkovitch (1999), but also played America's Sweethearts (2001) dragons. Zeperds both the protagonist and director, not an unknown phenomenon. Raven is exactly attention to the environment and space. Not exist Baltimore in 1849 and the filmmaker who sought refuge in Europe. A city that has all the right qualities of the nineteenth century Baltimore is the Hungarian capital Budapest, who played a big part of the movie.
helpless scripting
Baltimore Danube we take a lot of fog, wet stones and disgusting figure on horseback, galloping through the night. Lots of whining, hammering ado about nothing and lots of blood with deep cuts. Lots of everything, but where there is no fundamental flaw in character and strength script probably true drama. The two screenwriters of school: throw enough shit against the wall and there will always be someone stick. So Cusack unknown factors of a raccoon as a pet. One of the two script writers surname Shakespeare what might be called a comic opportunities. The acting is not bad, but with the ability and passing grades is no synergy and tacky moments of the film. Scenes meant to shock the earlier work of laughter and despair Cusack fantastic. He said in an interview that he is the core of Edgar Allan Poe had to deal with, but it is a classic case of requests father thought.
change
Thanks to movies like Silence of the Sheep and Seven, we know when it is about what serial killers in movies about. Removed limbs, buckets of blood and sadistic games nowadays leads to yawn rather than screaming. Classic Tale of survival in this way Poe is not moving in the film. Maybe it helped black humor and gothic style with Tim Burton, he knew how to manage the nineteenth century Fiction (Sleepy Hollow, 1999). And there is no better than Nicholas Cage confused alcohol. The Raven Flying everywhere, but it is stable and predictable. A wonderful style fracture occurs when suddenly we treat equipment with high-tech graphics. Beautiful, but unfortunately out of place in a costume of film as a pickpocket in a nudist park.
conclusion:
Raven is a terrific idea poorly developed: there is too much attention to develop and there are many famous horror clichés. We are left with bloody but empty. Two star for the cloud and the lantern light cement in Budapest.
